Eu Jordan Free Trade Agreement

Jordan is a member of the WTO and in December 2001 signed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United States, which since 2010 has allowed the elimination of tariffs on most goods and services. Jordan has also signed an Association Agreement with the EU. In 2016, the EU announced that it would facilitate the entry of Jordanian exports to support the economy and the integration of Syrian refugees. At the end of 2018, Jordan announced its free trade agreement with Turkey citing feasibility and the negative impact on local production. This agreement was replaced at the end of 2019 by a new free trade agreement. Jordan`s trade balance is structurally in deficit, mainly due to its dependence on hydrocarbon imports. Jordan`s trade deficit – excluding services – narrowed to 10.2 billion $US in 2018, from 10.7 billion the previous year, due to a slight decline in imports, while exports increased slightly. . . .
