Paris Agreement Coal Industry

States and societies around the world depend on coal, while many of its dangers have been known for decades. If the Paris Agreement is to be successful, heads of state and government around the world will need to consider why many countries – especially in developing countries – still depend on coal. Better yet, they need to find new ways to provide coal-dependent countries with affordable alternative energy and invest in new technologies that could help mitigate the negative consequences of coal. Investors and the Paris Agreement This briefing paper summarizes research commissioned by Urgewald and its partners to determine which institutional investors support the world`s top 120 coal-fired power plant developers. For example, in the United States, strict environmental, health and safety guidelines have increased pressure on the coal industry.
